There are times in a person’s life when they hit a wall, hit rock bottom, or find themselves in a bad situation. What we do at these times is an illustration of who we are and what we believe. There are; however, times when we simply can’t go it alone. It is these times when we need someone to lean on; something to hold on to. Readers can relate to the experiences shared by the author and his family.

Many, if not all, writers would agree that the act of writing is often therapeutic. It can be a way of thinking through problems, coping with illness, working through grief, and defusing tension. The writing of Splinters on the Carpenter's Floor appears to have been such an experience for author Randolph N. Alvis.
During a time of deep depression, Mr. Alvis found himself laboring in prayer throughout many a night. As a result, this book evolved from his experience of being in the pit of that depression and also from the revelations he gained during those times of prayer. Revelations such as the one that led to the title of this book:
"Jesus was a carpenter by trade, but the splinter's he created are those that fall from men's hearts. He's using a plane on our emotions, filing down our pride, and putting a fine stain of his blood of Calvary on each of his works. Ask Jesus into your life and he will carve your life into something very beautiful."
The author's passion for the Lord is obvious, as is the re-kindled fire in his life. His enthusiasm and desire to spur others on to live fully in Christ bursts out of every page. However, the communication of that enthusiasm is not always as clear or fresh as it could be, and there is quite a lot of repetition throughout this relatively small book. Even so, there are some little gems that make the reader stop and think.
Splinters on the Carpenter's Floor is a collection of 46 short articles aimed at spurring the reader on to a closer walk with Jesus. This book would best suit non-believers who are open to hearing about a better way of living or Christians who are struggling in their faith.
Just as the writing of this book was, no doubt, a final part of the healing process for Mr. Alvis, I feel certain his greatest desire would be for others to find healing and freedom in Christ as they read it and God's Word.

Splinters On The Carpenter's Floor
Our God is continually shaping us to conform to the image of his Son. Splinter's On The Carpenter's Floor evolved from many nights in prayer to God to remove me out of a deep depression. Jesus was a carpenter by trade, but the splinter's he created are those that fall from men's hearts. He's using a plane on our emotions, filing down our pride, and putting a fine stain of his blood of Calvary on each of his works. Ask Jesus into your life and he will carve your life into something very beautiful. The sign in his carpentry shop window says 'Always open, quality work from a master craftsman' Praise His Holy Name!
